I have a Ford V10 with a Ford transmission. It shifts down on the slightest hill. How long can I expect this transmission to last? I have synthetic transmission fluid in it. What would you suggest? -- John Oliver Dear John, Your Ford is pretty normal. These units will shift down on slight hills or when pushing a little head wind. If you are experiencing quite a bit of down-up shifting I would recommend just turning off the overdrive button and lock it in third gear until the road is flatter. If you are using the cruise control try turning it off and soft-pedal it up hills and you might be able to miss the need to down shift. If you really want to fix the problem, install a Banks Power Pac system. You will make more power in fourth gear and the transmission won't be down shifting near as much. The vehicle will accelerate much better, climb hills better, and run cooler.
