Making Friends on the Road

Malia's Mom and her siblings in Alaska
Anyone who has RV'd for any length of time will testify that RVers are some of the most friendly and helpful people around. For me, that's one of the nicest things about fulltiming. Anytime I want company, I can sit outside under my awning and strike up a conversation with others walking by. Sharing a love of this unique lifestyle establishes common ground immediately and a campfire under starlight accelerates the bonding process.

Invariably it ends up in a swapping of travel tales, and sharing our "must-sees" with each other. I've learned some of the best tips that way. And I've made some of the best of friends whose names always make me smile when I see them in my emailbox. And when we actually connect again as our paths re-cross, it feels like an old-old-friend reunion. One couple I met in Alaska ended up "adopting" my mom, so I gained siblings at the same time.

Many people I have met along the way have inspired me in the same way I am told I inspire others. Some who have read Inspiration's Journey have made special efforts to come meet me. I feel abundantly blessed when someone says my journal assisted them in following their own dreams.

So even if hitting the road means leaving some old friends behind for a while, be assured that new friends are out there just waiting to meet you.

Malia Lane has been a solo fulltime RVer for four years and has published her journal, "Inspiration's Journey" at MaliasRV.com. She recently began a new site MaliasMiles.com as an "information service for RVers by a fulltime RVer."
