Do-it-yourself Fifth Wheel: See how it was done

The results of this homebuilt fifth wheel look anything but home-built. The final product looks like it rolled right out of a major factory. See the step-by-step process of how a fellow built his own fifth wheel trailer, complete with slide-out. The project took seven months. Total cost $9,300. Very impressive. This video runs about five minutes.

  • My Airstream cost $60,000.00. The value of saying you built it yourself is worth a least $59,000.00. Way to go! Excellent work. It's such nice work, I'll bet most people at the campgrounds won't believe you until you show them the pictures.

  • Beautiful job. It is so soul satisfying to know there are people who can and will take on a challenge like this. I hate to think how many times you are not going to be believed when you tell them you built it. Congratulations, a job well done.

  • I am really interested in building my own trailer after seeing what you were able to do. I really like the idea that one can customize the layout of the trailer. Were there any books or websites that help direct you?

  • Considering that I have built
T-Bucket hot rods from scratch and a couple of itty bitty tear drop trailers, I can appreciate what you went thru- - - - but the concept of building a complete 5th wheel trailer- - - that size - - from scratch? "OH MY GOD!"

It is an accomplishment to be very---very proud of. Congratulations on a job well done.

  • As a full-timer I'd be interested in knowing the information necessary for redesigning the interior of an existing 5th wheel.
