New Way of Hauling Your 5th Wheel

A lot of strange things pass over the desk. We got an e-mail sent along to us regarding a fellow out of Utah whose working on a new towing system for his fifth wheel, using a gooseneck hitch and his SUV as a tow vehicle.

The e-mail is straight-forward enough--of course, in our innocense we can't tell whether this is as my 8th grade US history teacher used to say, "Is this ho-ho, or is it the real thing?" You'll have to judge for yourselves.

  • Strange as it is, this "unit" does not surprise me in the least. Just hope its an eastern development.

  • Atleast the trailer is level for highway speeds!!)

  • How does he/she keep enough pressure on the front tires to steer? Looks like they are barely on the ground. On the plus side, the rear ones certainly are!

  • I would be scared silly to meet this unit or follow this unit on the highway. There seems to be minimal control via front wheels and I envision them lifting off the road thus causing a tremendous accident. Hope it is a joke.

  • Its nuts like this that cause the Gov to get involved. Next we will have to have our tow vehicles inspected. Of course, it will be a charge for the inspection.

  • Hopefully this is a joke that a couple of buddies came up with to get a response out of people

  • It looks like one of those things that after drinking a case of beer you look and say, "I'll bet I can tow this sucker with..."

  • What it doesnt say is:
    It makes 0 - 60 MPH under 8 seconds ! WOW !

  • I want to know how the tailgate stays attached! Oooh, I don't want to be behind this on a hill!

  • Just why would you think this was someone from the EAST who would try this? There are careless people every where.

  • This is a classic example of evolution in action.

  • Perfectly secure!!!!

As you can see, his bed rails are bolted to both the bed of the cargo compartment, and the tailgate and those super strong dog leash chains will no doubt keep him from bending the bed rails or snaping the tailgate bolts. I am sure if he has friends that helped him with that, they will probably ride on the hood to help him make those nasty turns easier to handle. And since they are up there they can hold a couple 1,000,000 candlepower spotlights to spot things they might not want to hit, and maybe have enough time to stop before they do....

This has the additional benefit of warning everyone on the road that something very different is headed their way, and to give it a wide berth.

  • The rest of these pics show wood supports (HA) under the tailgate and as for being from the east the license plate says UTAH.. lol

  • My next door neighbor says this was his brother.
I really hope one of them is smarter than that.(but, maybe not.)
