Screen Door Lock

Here is a great idea for your screen door. By putting this sliding lock on the door frame you are able to prevent your dog or cat from accidentally opening it. You can take a nap with your door open confident that the screen door will remain closed. Will it stop a thief? No! Not for three seconds, so don’t think this will solve that problem. For that situation post a sign like this.

  • Jim,

A lock like this on the door will also help a toddler from falling out. When my daughter was 2 she pushed against the screen door, it opened, and she tumbled right out on hard pavement. Lucky she was not hurt. But it was a scary situation.

  • I use just a spring hook with a screw eye about 5 feet from the floor. The spring keeps the hook from coming undone accidently. About $1 to get it.

  • I picked up some expandable wood framed window screens at a garage sale for .50 and stretched one across the screen door. The dogs can still see outside but not push the door open. Plus if they push or scratch the window screen on the frame it is not a major thing like it could be with the screen in the door.
