John Kanzius was not looking for an alternative fuel source, but was working on a cure for cancer. About four years ago he came up with the idea of using a radio frequency generator to kill cancer cells. Radio waves will heat certain metals like gold which can be injected into patients. These gold particles attach to the cancer cells which are then hit with radio waves, the gold heats up and kills the cancer cells without harming the healthy cells. As a byproduct of this research, John discovered that he could use his radio frequency generator to burn salt water. It is now possible to use common salt water to power motors. Who would have imagined. Check out this fascinating video clip:

Cool, but the question is how much energy is used to generate the radio waves?

How much electrical energy does it take to make enough radio wave energy to run a vehicle? Is it cost effective? Will it, for instance, compete with battery power running an electric motor directly?

The fact that he has come up with a way to generate energy from saltwater is simply incredible. Obviously if he can develop a simple way to reroute some of the energy being developed from the saltwater, he could easily have a self generating energy source. The negative side of the battery question is disposal of the battery when it is exhausted. As far as efficiency vs a battery, it seems the battery is the loser in this. Battery power is expensive to generate. Based soley on the video, saltwater is cheap. Don't assume that once developed that electrical energy will be used to produce the radio wave, it may very well be the saltwater itself. The reason that this discovery was made was made quite clear, he was looking for the solution to another problem. Certainly the other scientists that have become involved will work toward a solution to these questions. The German architect Tessenow once said," The simple concept is not always the best, but, the best is always simple."

Doesn’t salt give off a poisonous gas when burnt?

Great !!! Lets empty the Oceans next! With that intense flame, it probly burns more oxygen....

Gawrsh, I hope the Great Salt Lake doesn't blow up-LOL Or Salton Sea. It sounds like a great idea and the burning of water creates water as a bi-product. Sheer genuis and if it can also cure cancer, I say empty the ocean? Not in a billion years can that happen.

This is the most amazing discovery yet. I wonder how long it will take before things really start getting serious with this. It seems to me most ideas to conserve oil and energy have been bypassed. But this is something definitely worth keeping around for a long time. It's cost efficient, cleaner, and easy to aquire. The fact that we could aquire salt water as a fuel source within our own country's borders means no more importing dependence on foreign countries to supply our energy. Yay!! Kiss our ass middle east! haha :) (I know, a bit too immature)
