RV’s Two Massive Slideout Rooms Make This Coach Stand Out

With two expansive slides and a curved wall walk through bathroom, this Itasca Horizon 40TD was my favorite motorhome at the recent Redmond, Oregon RV show. This coach design is simply amazing! The Freightliner XCL Maxum chassis is, well…. different. It has a low slung support that not only allows room for the massive slides, but it also increases the basement storage capacity. This cube, where Yours Truly is standing is the actual size of the underbelly storage of this beast. The slide out trays and the exterior entertainment system are excellent. I love the interior, because it has the TV where you can actually watch it without getting a cramp in your neck. It also allows for a full view out of the front window without the TV getting in the way. The front kitchen brings the refrigerator closer to the driver (which I really like) and opens up the living area considerably. When the coach slides are closed you can still get to the bedroom through the unique and elegant curved wall bathroom. The bedroom is very nice and well appointed. The cockpit is comfortable and spacious designed for hours of driving fun pushed by the Cummins 425 horse power diesel engine. As far as design and comfort, it doesn’t get much better than this. The coach is priced at $309,000 (but don't EVER pay full price for a new coach). I fully expect other coach manufacturers to copy Winnebago Industry’s unique design in future models. • we've seen this floor plan in other coaches. Kitchen hits you in face as come in door... refer and kitchen up front. Hate it. We're fulltime and been around RVs of all sizes/shapes for over 30 yrs. In Our Opinion, not practical. King Aire (Newmar) .. same thing..awful...Allegro is coming out with the full wall slide, same fl plan--awful..and others. Maybe weekenders/happy campers don't mind it, don't have to look at it all the time.

  • Karen/Jim - what is an example of a coach with a floor plan that you do like?

  • We just picked up our 08 Tour KD at Forest City after the WIT Rally. We are full timers and chose the KD to get the cermnic floor, almost throughout, the dual slides in the living area and he Maxim chasis. We had them remove the non sleeping couch in place of an Euro Chair so we can install a desk in the removed couch area. We went from a gas to pusher and the upgrade is unbelieveable. Good review but if you are serious look at the KD floorplan.

  • We have a 2006 Winnebago 38T that has a very similar. floor plan and love it. It's like being in a small home. Ours is a gas Vortec engine and performs great - good mileage.

  • I think this is great! We've been looking at both 5th wheels and motorhomes for our potential retirement and full time for the last year. We had pretty much decided on a 5th wheel (up to this point) because we simply didn't like any of the floor plans of any motor home we looked at...this motorhome corrected several "issues" for us:
    1. We DON'T like the TV above the drivers area!
    2. None of the motorhomes we looked at had enough living space (this seems a lot roomier).
The only other thing we are looking for is a king sized bed...does this come with a king bed?
This is probably the nicest motorhome we have seen to date.
    Thanks for a great review!!
