Don’t Leave Your Manners At Home When You Go RVing

RVers as a group are some of the nicest well mannered people you will meet. We recently met a nice Canadian couple who parked next to us at an RV park. One afternoon as dinner rolled around, these folks decided to BBQ hamburgers (which are notoriously smokey due to the fat content of the burgers). Because they were experienced RVers and very polite people, they made it a point to ensure that the smoke from their BBQ drifted away from surrounding RV’s. It’s a blessing when you have thoughtful neighbors! I’ll have more to say about this tomorrow. • After smelling the stench of people burning at ground zero and at the Pentagon, my stomach starts rolling as soon as people put red meat on the grill. I keep my windows closed and the ac on when neighbors start cooking and the smoke starts hanging.

  • Really, the only problem i have with other RVers are the trailer people and some motor homes as well, is the use of the generator. it seems that fifth wheelers and the like have to use the generator constantly. for hours on end. i just do not get it. I feel really bad when i have to use the micro for 10 minuets and fire up the gen. Then there are the few who know nothing about QUIET time and run it until all hours. When i see a trailer coming now i start looking for a new spot.

  • Pretty graphic comment M&M. Generators. Fifth wheelers and trailers. Stop using the generators all day. You people who use them after Quiet hour, shame on you. When I see a trailer coming I start looking for a new spot. Why do they need to use it all day??? I feel so bad when I use it for just a couple of minuets at a time.

  • Some people's lives depend on their generators running full time. My husband is on oxygen 24/7 and his concentrator needs electricity. This is why we don't stay in parks w/o hook ups or stay in truck stops or parking lots where the noise won't bother others.

  • m&m, having been in prehospital and ER medicine as well as coroner responsibilities for close to 30 years, I am here to say that the smell of burning flesh and red meat is not the same, just as odors of rotting flesh and other rot is not the same. What may be the cause of your body's physiological response to red meat on the grill are the visuals that accompanies those smells. The visuals are just as difficult to deal with as the smells. Perhaps some additional Critical Incident Stress Debriefing might help in making your camping adventures not so abhorrent. Just a thought for your wellbeing . . . . .

  • I can live with generators, and I can even close up untill the hamburgers are done. But the one that caused me the most greif is the one that parked right next to me, even tho we parked in a field and were the only two, so there was plenty of room. But as I said, he parked right next to me, with the generator exhaust across from my door, turned it on for his dog! and then left. It could not leave the door open and it got so bad that I had to go outside and sit. People please watch where your exhaust is when you park and turn on the generator.

  • As a U.S. Veteran I want to say that burning flesh and hamburgers are not even in the same class.I am gladd that I almost died for you so you can post crap like that to waste everyones timewho read it.
If you have PTSD problems (like myself) go to your nearest VA center. And just because you have a trailer doesn't mean you run your generator because your dumb and do not own fancy motor home. what if trailer owners stero typed coach owners that can not pull up after fueling before going into the store and talk about them selves for 30 min. Get a life. Some people would complain if you hung them with a new rope.

  • Let's don't be mean to each other.

I feel this is a good place to learn and share so each of us does not have to make every mistake personally. :-)

    I do have a question ???

How is the generator on a trailer different from one on a motorhome?

Wouldn't the exhaust and noise for either one be disturbing ?

  • Or the fifty feet of 5th wheel toy haulers with their duly double cabs yakking in the store about nothing that matters taking up space at the pump........works both ways..

  • Sounds like some people want the peace, quite and luxury of a five star resort at a campground. Ain’t gunna happen. A few have figured it out though: if you don’t like where you are… move.

  • My pet peeve are the diesel pickup drivers (who haul their 5th wheelers or who have truck campers that must need extra power) who leave their trucks running well past the time they are parked and settled. Sometimes they go well after quiet hours - as happened recently during my trip to the Tetons.
