RVers Make More Time for Fun

The RV lifestyle is one of fun and leisure. Who wants to spend hours cooking when you can have a quick meal? I enjoy cooking, but I have to be in the mood to do it and I also have to be willing to clean up the mess. On driving days and when you just need a fast meal, prepared food items are the answer. When I was a kid you choices for fast weren’t that many because the microwave hadn’t come to our neck of the woods. Today you have thousands of ready made food choices. These are easy to fix and usually quick to prepare. I usually take these items out of their boxes and repackage them in an air tight plastic zip bag for more compact RV freezer storage. RVers are now free to spend more time doing what they like to do instead of cooking. • I too transfer stuff to plastic bags, in order to save freezer space, but I faltten things like hamburger meat, or prepared ahead of time taco meat,etc... as flat as I can get it, any other types of meat or fish I make single layers as flat as I can, this allows me to get alot more in my freezer.

  • We cook different things in advance and store it in Seal-o-matic pouches. My wife just heats up the food and you got it.

  • When I buy ground meat I take it out of the market tray, divide it into meal-size portions and freeze in, flattened, in snack ziplocks. I buy pork chops, chicken breasts, etc., and do the same. Also works with large frozen bags of vegies--divide into meal size portions and freeze individually. Full-timers for ten years, still loving it!

  • We, too, repackage everything into ziplocks for the freezer. We put enough for one meal for us and the dog in each quart size bag. The quart sized bags are thicker and can be flattened easily without breaking the seal.

  • My wife also packages foods in plastic bags. We found our need for ice cubes limited and decided to remove the automatic ice maker. It saved a fair amount of space. We now use the old fashioned way, a small ice cube tray, when we want ice.

  • As a suggestion, on repacking meals, it might be a good idea to cut out the cooking instructions and place in the bag with the meal.
