RV Church Volunteers Camp Free

Did you know that you can use your RV to make a beneficial hands-on contribution that will help others? Many RVers serve their churches by working at campgrounds, orphanages, church building projects, colleges and other church related ministries. The majority of these volunteer jobs come with a free RV site including full hook-ups and sometimes meals. Many denominations have an RV club or group organized specifically for the purpose of supplying volunteer help to these projects. This week we visited our denomination's Family Services Agency in Hot Springs, Arkansas where we took a tour of the campus. They are completing two new group homes for children and volunteer RVers have been helping with the project. These ministry based organizations are always working on new projects, renovations or routine maintenance and are happy to have the extra help offered by RVers. This particular ministry has three permanent RV sites with full hook-ups. You can't just pull into the campground and report to work, you first need to be referred to the project by the organizers of the denomination RV group. In this case the RV group is called MAPS which stands for Mission America Placement Service and a background check is required of all volunteers before they are allowed to work with this group. The background check is an important safeguard to help protect children who are frequently present at camps and churches. These groups also sponsor rallies where members gather to enjoy fellowship and benefit from training sessions covering building skills. If this sounds like something you would like to do, begin by contacting your denomination headquarters and ask about their RV volunteer club. Bringing you opportunities for useful service while living aboard your RV - Jim Twamley, Professor of RVing

  • I always read your blog and miss it when you are having a "rest day". Thank you for writing it as it is usually very helpful and/or insightful. And since you always seem like someone I would like to meet or camp next to, I now know why after reading today's blog. I thought you might be a Christian and now I know you are a real bible believing one from a bible believing "denomination" and I will be spending eternity with you. Keep up the great and helpful blogs and I will be meeting you soon.

  • Thank you Judy for your very nice compliment. Yes, I am a Christian a true Christ follower and served the Assemblies of God as a Chaplain in the U.S. Navy. After retiring from the Navy I pastored a church in Klamath Falls, Oregon for five years before hitting the road as a full time RVer. I hold church services for snowbirds in Arizona during the winter season. Otherwise, my wife and I wander around the country visiting with friends and family and enjoying God's creation. If someone reading this would like to know how to become a Christ follower contact me by email at jimtwamley@gmail.com Thanks for your readership.

  • I have been following your writings for a few years and enjoy them very much.I have known that you are a minister for almost all of the time I have been reading.
I also am a born again Christian attending the Pentecostal Assemblies of Canada in Kirkland Lake,Ontario,Canada. My wife and I have a class C motorhome that we use for traveling and camping in the good weather but have not even taken it for a drive as yet this year. We seem to be busy with church activities and my own electronics service business at our home. I was volunteering at our church camp yesterday painting the girls' dormitory and likely will be there again this week. I must say that it is enjoyable to work for the Lord, this is the second year we have volunteered at this camp and Northwood Camp ( one of the Circle Square Camps belonging to 100 Huntley Street Ministries near Toronto).
Keep up the good work as we need some good literature to read and fill our minds with clean worthwhile reading. God Bless you.

  • Jim:
THanks for mentioning volunteer Christian service in your blog. I enjoy your blogs. I am retired Canadian military lving full time in our 5th wheel serving the Lord in Ontario and Florida.
The SOWER ministry www.sowerministry.org is another great opportunity for born again believers who love to RV and serve. It is non-denominational and has projects and members across the USA and Canada. We are currently leading a group of 5 couples, 2 from the USA and 3 from Canada at a camp is southeastern Ontario on a typical 4 week project. We will work 3 weeks for 4 days for 6 hours a day with the 4th week available for staying here or moving on.
    You would enjoy this ministry.
Hope to meet you one day.
