Next RV outing consider camping with the Army
RVers have enjoyed camping at Army Corps of Engineers campgrounds for many years. These campgrounds are usually located near lakes (since the Corps of Engineers was in the dam building business). 
These campgrounds are scattered all over the country so it's a good idea to purchase the "RVer's Guide to Corps of Engineers Campgrounds" which you can pick up here: RVbookstore.com
The campsites usually have a picnic table, BBQ or fire pit, electric (usually 30 amps) and water with a nearby dump station. 
The price is right, and if you have a golden age or access pass (now called "America the Beautiful") you pay half price.

We did took advantage of one of those campground this summer in Nashville, Tennessee and this was by far one of the most beautifull place we have been to

I've stayed at Highland Ridge Campground near Eau Galle Rec Area in western Wisconsin twice in the last month, my first at an Army Corps of Engineers campground and both very pleasant stays. Beautiful sites, well-spaced, nice privacy, nice shower and other facilities. Got the book and will be looking for them from now on!

We stopped at the John Day Corps of Engineers park at MM114 I-84 in Or. by the John Day Dam. It was so beautiful and you could have a site right on the water. Up the road at MM107 heading west 1 block is a small store where you can buy a fishing license by the day and bait. It is a small park with elec and water hookups and a dump station. We had site #1 with the river beside us and a nountain behind us. There is also a beach where you can swim and a boat launch.

Reservations in The Corps of Engineers in and around North Caroliona and probably other states are REQUIRED to be made through "Reserve America.com": owned by who I don't know. I've had too many bad experiences using their services ie. arriving and being told I had cancelled the reservation.(which I did not) and there is no one to complain to.
I now take a chance a site is available.

It is interesting to note most privatized National Park Service and other privatized federal camp sites do not honor Golden Access in the spaces with hook ups. I refused to pay full bore in Meza Verde and then needed to use my oxygen machine. We turned on the generator when we had too. I hotly dislike privatizing any state or federal services or programs. Especially Federal and State Parks and Campgrounds.
