That's what Dow Chemical wants you to know. Their product, called Dowfrost RVR is coming to a Wal-mart near you starting Labor Day. Company media releases crow about its safety, and its renewable resource friendliness. Most RVers are familiar with the "pink stuff" sold in RV stores. Unlike automotive cooling system antifreeze (based on ethelyne glycol), the RV plumbing system antifreeze is based on a non-toxic substance, propylene glycol. Dowfrost RVR has the same stuff as everyone else's product--with a twist. Dow says another, "plant-derived product." What the mystery substance is has not been disclosed. Spinach to make the stuff strong, maybe? In any event, if you follow Dow's logic, the new product will help American's fight the energy war. To quote Dow: "DOWFROST RVR offers significant savings of petroleum-based products. Based on early estimates of seasonal demand, over three million pounds of traditional hydrocarbons will be saved from consumption – equal to nearly 250,000 gallons of oil." And the bottom line: How much does the new stuff cost? According to Dow's PR representative, "It should be comparable to what else is out there." In the end, with Walmart as the exclusive retailer of consumer quantities of this new product, Walmart will set the price.
