The "campground" in contention is not a 'slum lord' privately owned operation. The campground is part of a community owned park Still, the complaints have reached the ears of the community services district board of directors. They've told the Eureka Reporter that they'll consider the closure of the park--and base it on money. The campground was originally built as a money maker to help support the park itself. And make money, it does: In 2007 the campground generated $25,000 in revenue for the park district. But local residents presented the Board with a petition with over 20 signatures demanding the apparently popular RV campground be closed. AS THIS STORY WAS GOING TO PRESS: We received news that the local authority decided to keep the campground open, despite growling on the part of area residents. In a follow-up story, the Reporter said the directors found 'fine print in the contract.' It seems the town took state funds to build the RV park, and the agreement for the funds precludes its closure. Top of Page Get your FREE RV Travel Newsletter every week - sign up now.
