But Lewis' feelings of victory went sour when he contacted the RV dealer to make arrangements to close the deal. The dealer suddenly got cold feet, and explained that a "swarm of killer bees" had invaded the trailer, and that the insecticides used to wipe them out had made the fifth wheel just too dangerous to sell him. Lewis' almost-RV, said the dealer, Nelson RV, was on its way to Mexico. Presumably folks south of the border are a more hardy stock, when it comes to handling bug spray. To say that Lewis was "bugged" about the deal is an understatement. He quickly filed complaints with eBay and with the Arizona attorney general. Local TV station, KVOA interviewed management at the dealership. One woman told the station she preferred not to comment on the renigged deal but her husband -- also a company owner -- had plenty to say. His bottom line was the company simply wouldn't sell an RV for $15,000 that they reportedly paid $30,000 for. It turns out Lewis' persistence paid off. Shortly after the TV station contacted Nelson's RV, Lewis received an e-mail from the eBay seller. There'd been a change of heart, and Lewis could make arrangements to pick up his new RV. It would seem Nelson RV failed to place a minimum bid reserve on their auction. However, we couldn't confirm that aspect of the story: eBay has dropped the closed sale from its listings.
