Two fires started on the east side of Malta, one contained to about an acre, the other held down to 30 acres. Firefighters quickly responded and were able to save several structures. However things got a little tougher on the west side of Malta, where a 5,000 acre fire roared through brush and wheat fields traveling in and out of coulees.
Authorities finally caught up to the motorhome and pulled it over. At that time the motorhomers were brought up to speed on their fiery condition. By the time firefighters could arrive to take care of the motorhome, it was a total loss. The misadventure began on Monday August 25, and firefighters were still on the job Tuesday, handling hot spots. Five agencies and many local farmers responded to the battle.
