Don't You Ever Get Lonely?

Fall Solitude
That's usually the second question I get asked after people find out I'm a single woman full time RVer. The first is "What gave you the idea to do something like that?"

I can answer both questions with one scenario. Picture being beside the death bed of someone you love and finding out they are full of regrets, wanting just one more day to do some of the things that their heart has always dreamed of but had always postponed. But they're leaving their lives alone with many wishes unfulfilled. How lonely is that?

Solitude is completely distinct from loneliness. Sometimes when I am unaccompanied is when I feel the most connected to everyone and everything around me. One Fall I was at a park taking pictures of a blue lake and orange trees. The ground beneath me felt soft, spongy and alive. The falling leaves were vibrating and the rustling of the bird feathers were in perfect sync with the beating of my heart. I was experiencing solitude but with such a connection to everything around me, no way that could be described as being lonely. In solitude you can see how much alike we are. But I have felt lonely in a room full of people.

I say share your dreams with another when you can, but don't let the fear of being alone stop you from living them.

Malia Lane has been a solo fulltime RVer for four years and has published her journal, "Inspiration's Journey" at MaliasRV.com. She recently began a new site MaliasMiles.com as an "information service for RVers by a fulltime RVer."
