Fleetwood sold. No word on fate of warranty obligations

When Fleetwood Enterprises filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy last March, huge ripples were made in the RV industry 'pond.' After killing off its production of towables and disposing of other assets, Fleetwood was only left with its motorhome division and its manufactured housing unit. Now a buyer has been found for the motorized wing.

If a federal bankruptcy judge approves the sale today (UPDATE: It was approved), American Industrial Partners Capital Fund IV LP (AIP) of New York will own the last of the Fleetwood brands. The company offered $53 million for the motorhome division, including Fleetwood "intellectual property rights" and a couple of manufacturing plants. Included in the bargain was the possibility of the assumption of certain liabilities -- including warranty obligations.

What will this mean for Fleetwoodo-built motorhome owners who still have -- at least on paper -- certain warranty protections? There is no word yet, but we will update RVtravel.com readers as soon as we get word.
