have heard that golf is very expensive in Mexico. My neighbor said he
paid more than $200 a round in the Baja. Isn't there anything more

Hi Jeff, There
still may be time to order a golf book from the Mexican Tourist Board.
Call 1-800-44MEXICO and ask for a golf directory. The directory lists
many golf courses by state, gives the standard description and
statistics as well as gives prices. While like all publications, the
prices go out of date quickly but it will give you a general idea
regarding price.
We have found some real gems this way.
Mexicali, for example, has a very inexpensive and good course. We are

currently in a community 40 miles north of Puerto Vallarta,
and our local par three course is only $15 to $20 a day. If you are
staying a week, a month or even a whole season you can get substantial
savings.
Don't be afraid to pack those clubs. Yes, golf in
Mexico can be expensive, but you can find reasonable golf in many parts
of the country that will challenge your skills and not your pocketbook.

are a few ways that you can travel with others. We offer a free listing
on our website www.ontheroadin.com for people that want to build their
own caravan or have company along the way. We will also publicize thes
free ads in our monthly e-zine "The Mexican Journal." It is distributed
to 23,000 readers. Just write us (editor@ontheroadin.com) with your ad
and particulars.
Another idea is to join with others to
campground hop. Camp in a location where RVers are likely to be
crossing into Mexico. Make friends and ask if you could tag along to
the next community. We have always found the generosity of RVers cannot
be beat. If you use this strategy, go during the busy RV season of
November to March. You will find many folks willing to lead you or join
together.
Dear Dot and Bill, I have never traveled to Mexico
by RV but I am taking the plunge this January. I want to go down the
gulf coast and then travel around the Yucatan. What are the roads
conditions like? Will it be too crowded at this time? -- Brad, Seattle

consider taking our Edmonds course on September 14 at the RV Bookstore.
It will really be able to prime you for your maiden voyage.
There are many good spots to camp on the gulf coast but the Costa Esmerlada has many fine locations to drop anchor
Roads
on the Gulf Coast are for the most part non-toll, two lane roads with
few pullouts and shoulders. However they are generally in good shape
with few potholes. The weather during rainy season (and hurricane
season) determines to a great extent the road conditions. If you are
considering January, local governments will have an opportunity to fill
in cracks and holes cause by the annual rains. The roads are generally
decent and flat so you can make good time. Roads on the Yucatan tend to
be bigger with more toll roads (freeways) and are generally in a
reliable good condition. February
is a perfect month to start your travels. January and February are very
busy in the Yucatan and you may just be pulling in as the snowbirds are
packing up and leaving.
