RV websites of the week:
Get your Kicks Here
Where? On Route 66 of course! Did you know that the famous "Mother Road" is not even indicated on new-fangled road maps nowadays? On this very first website dedicated to Historic 66, there are detailed road descriptions and much more. From Chicago to Los Angeles, travel the 2,448 miles along this 2 lane wonder "Main Street of America." Lovers of roadside nostalgia don't want to miss the Pig Hip Museum, so check out Roadside Icons of Route 66 "must-see's."
Wanna play Route 66 trivia? During what years did the TV show run? Find out the answer to this tidbit and more on the site, or cheat and find it below.
How much will it cost to get there?
AAA has a site to let you figure that out. Is it going to take an arm and a leg to reach your destination or a less major appendage? Using current gas prices, as well as highway fuel economy ratings from the EPA, the AAA Fuel Cost Calculator estimates the amount and cost of gasoline needed to complete a trip. As long as you're going from one included city to another included city, this is a useful tool.
Hotspots Galore
A guy who runs an electronic business on the road put up this neat program to find places to get online. He build a mapped directory that shows places that have Wi-Fi and can handle RVs. Click a spot on the map and it will plot truckstops or campgrounds within a selected radius. You can also specify a start and end point and see all the stops along the way with Wireless Trips .
. . . And if you'd rather have your own system:
A comparison of Direcway vs. Starband satellite systems
This RVNetworking site provides a handy table outlining the differences in equipment, installation, monthly charges, pricing, and service plans when choosing between two of the most popular internet satellite providers. Side-by-side photos of the different components are also shown.
More info about other satellite internet choices and options can be found in this RVTravel.com article by your editor.

RV News
Gas Guzzlers or not, we still love 'em
We're still stepping on the gas, even when we go less than 10 miles for every very expensive gallon. So say drivers of recreational vehicles, whose enthusiasm seems undimmed by high fuel prices. Read what the LA Times says about why they're not coming off the road.
Interpol sets dragnet for RV renter
A woman snatched her children during a supervised visit, locking the social worker inside while she hit the road in a rented RV. Mom is thought to be accompanied by a male partner, also wanted by police concerning a sexual offense involving a child, according to ICWales.
Boondocking is no boon for private RV park owners
Oregon Life has a great article with RVers talking about the difference between campground camping and parking-lot parking. A woman RVer says regarding complaints from campground owners about parking-lot parking: "We can't make them understand. They aren't losing business, because we wouldn't stay there. You're either an RV park person or you're not." She says boondocking helps her keep travel costs down, especially as fuel prices climb.
Don't pay to stay: Learn about more than 760 places where an RVer can camp for free on $10 or less. You'll find an ever-expanding directory at FreeCampgrounds.com.
Just for Fun
"Low Class Is Better Than No Class At All!"
Cheesy Lights prides themselves on having one of the largest selections of party, patio, and RV lights on the Internet. "We're not talkin' yer Brie kinda cheesy... Here's where you get those "Lit Up Lizard Party Lights" you've been wanting and didn't know till now.

Stinky RV Toilet?
This guy can crack you up even when writing about a subject we all dread experiencing. Russ De Maris describes the "houseatosis" problem in such a way that you can actually grin through the smell as he tells you how to sweeten the pot.
To Slide or Not to Slide...
The latest motorhome delivery statistics show that more than 70% of new units are being built with at least one slide-out. Here's an article by Bob Gummersall that reveals the pros and cons and answers the age-old question, "Is it worth it?"
Sure it can be done - but why do it?
To get in Guiness, I guess. This guy set the world record for jumping the longest distance with a car towing a Caravan. Don't try this at home.
