The association reported that a recent survey it had conducted of RVers showed that 76 percent of RV owners intend to use their RVs more this spring and summer than last year, and 20 percent plan to use theirs the same amount. Only 4 percent say they'll use their RVs less. Readers of RVtravel.com are singing a different tune. Based on the responses of more than 3,700 readers about how $4 a gallon fuel would affect their travels, about three quarters of RVers said they would cut back their RVing. Nine percent would stop all together. Only 23 percent say that $4 a gallon fuel would have no affect on their RV travels. The survey was conducted during the first week of May. "We have an RV because of the freedom and flexibility it affords. When gas gets to $4 a gallon and we have to think twice about every trip we take it will be over for us," reported RVers name Joe and June. Most of the RVers who responded to the RVtravel.com survey said they would still travel by RV, but would either cut back their miles or the amount of time they travel, or both. "We will plan our trips to stay longer at each location and stretch our travel plans over a longer period of time," wrote an RVer named Dave, who echoed the responses of many other RVers who left comments. Four-dollar a gallon fuel is already a reality. One RVer reported to RVtravel.com that he paid $4.19 a gallon for gasoline in Needles, Calif., during the last week of April. "I think the result of high gas prices will keep RVers closer to home," said RVtravel.com editor Chuck Woodbury. "I'd be worried if I owned an RV park or tourist attraction in rural America. Campgrounds near major population areas will probably be packed this summer." The results of the RVtravel.com survey and the responses from RVers who left comments can can found on the RVtravel.com website.
