The show which presents the latest and greatest the RV industry is introducing for the new model year didn’t disappoint. The manufacturers have been busy dressing up and in some cases revamping their offerings. In addition, suppliers and aftermarket manufacturers have been adding a considerable amount of new products to their catalogs and showrooms. As we proceed into the first quarter of 2006, we’ll be reviewing and revealing some of the products and services showcased during the 2005 RVIA show, but here’s a hint of some of the offerings… Full wall slides are becoming more popular with RVers and manufacturers are obliging with coaches like the Fleetwood Discovery and Monaco Knight. Full paint schemes are everywhere and toy haulers are going mainstream, even appearing in high-end diesel coaches like the Dynamax Grand Sport Toy Hauler, which is forty-four feet of toy hauling grandeur. Entry-level diesels are growing, including diesel versions of popular gas coaches like the Monaco LaPalma and Holiday Rambler Vacationer. These coaches are built on a Roadmaster RSR chassis, and while having a Cummins Diesel engine, are equipped with standard spring suspensions and hydraulic brakes which help to keep the cost down. The engine is in the rear, though, making it possible to have a relatively quiet diesel pusher at a gas coach price. There’s also a neat 75th anniversary edition of an old-time favorite; the Airstream travel trailer. This special edition which was on display at the show had a great retro look inside and out, while integrating modern technology throughout. Technology is growing into every corner of the RV. We’ll be reviewing some of these new-fangled products which make RVing easier and more carefree. Included are a plethora of home entertainment devices and systems (which were truly amazing), like many sizes and designs of LCD and plasma televisions, home theater systems, and remote control systems that literally can control everything on a coach. There are also new electric fireplaces, new appliances, generators and yes, even more new toilet technology! One item I thought was pretty neat was the new Sink-Away by D&W. The Sink-Away is a sink that attaches to the side of the RV to help folks handle their messy chores outside. Oh, and A&E has completely redesigned their awning hardware to a new rounded modern design for 2006. There are many more great things to talk about and we will in coming issues. It is clear to me that modern day RVers have it better than the Vanderbilts and Astors of yesteryear did! Enjoy! All in all, it’s clear from this show that the RV industry is doing well, and all RVers have a lot to look forward to!
