With high gas prices and all other increasing costs of RVing, it's good to know there are some ways to save money without significantly sacrificing the quality of the RV experience.
I am thrilled to report that our website FreeCampgrounds.com has now topped 2,000 listings of free or inexpensive (less than $10) places to stay the night in an RV. Most are not official campgrounds, but they are all places where FreeCampgrounds.com readers have spent a night on the cheap. The website is reader-driven: one reader reports on a place that he or she stayed for free or for a bare-bones price, and then others who subsequently visit the location leave their own comments about what they encountered. Sometimes they report that the camping is no longer free, or the price has gone up, or perhaps the spot has disappeared entirely (stores that once welcomed RVs may close or change their freebie policies).
Some of the best deals are city parks in small towns -- most commonly in the Midwest. Many communities have set aside campgrounds in their city parks with designated campsites and sometimes even hookups. The price is often free, or if there is a charge it's either by donation or less than $10.
I invite you to visit FreeCampgrounds.com. Before you head off on your next trip, look ahead at where you are traveling and then check the website to see if there is a handy place to stop along the way where you can save some money! Saving $25 or $30 a night over a traditional campground can help offset high gas prices.
If you know of a camping location that is not already listed, please take a few minutes to input the information for other RVers. If the pace of postings continues as it has, there may be 3,000 listings by this time next year rolls around.

RV dealer won't sell RV to buyer claiming killer bee invasion

Find out what happened.

How often should you sanitize your RV's water tank?
Some RVers believe it's not necessary to sanitize their RV's fresh-water tank on a regular basis because they use their unit often. Water doesn't sit in the tank for long periods, they reason, so it doesn't stagnate. Well, they're wrong. Find out why sanitizing is necessary even if you use your RV every day, how often you should do it and what procedure to use. Click here.

FEMA won't unload surplus Katrina travel trailers
The infamous FEMA trailers are back in the news. RV Tech Tip by Mark Polk
Will my RV extended service plan cover me if I have a tire blowout?
Mark Says: Don't get an extended service plan confused with an emergency roadside assistance plan. Some service plans do offer additional coverage and protection like a towing service or tire repair service, but most do not. Many RV manufacturers include an emergency roadside plan for a certain time period when you purchase a new RV. If the RV you buy does not come with one, I recommend you look into and purchase a good roadside assistance plan. It can be the difference between a good vacation and a ruined vacation. This is something else you will want to shop around and compare prices on before you buy. RV clubs offer discounted rates to members and there are many plans to choose from.

Pulling my TT
I am about to purchase a 1999 Coachman Catalina. I'm not sure about the length but I know it is over 30 feet. DO I have to use a sway bar and all the other equipment to pull it or is all of the optional? I pretty much want to know what I absolutely need to pull this thing.
Water tank capacity
Anyone know what the fresh water tank capacity of a 15-foot 1989 Lynx Prowler is? I am looking at one and the towing capacity of my Pathfinder is 3500 lbs. The GVRW on the trailer is 3265 lbs. I am kind of new to the towing game but I love this little trailer, and I want to know if I can tow it without water and not kill my vehicle.
Refrigerator warms while driving
I have a 95 Airstream Classic 36' MOHO. Fridge works great while stopped on electric or gas. If we drive for more than a few hours, the temps will start to climb. Temps will reach 60 degrees in fridge on a hot day after driving for 6-8 hours. I have tried to run on gas and electric while driving with the same results either way. When we stop for the eve, all is well, and the fridge will recover in about 1-2 hours, and stays cold until we start driving the next day. Any ideas?
Broken cord in day-night accordion shade
I have a broken slide cord in my shade. I must use a wedge or something to hold it up, or it slides back down. I can't move the frame side to side (blocked by cabinet and wall). I'm afraid to remove the screws without knowing the next step, lest I damage something. The frame must be removed to get to the day-night accordion shade to replace the cord. I can't see any mounting parts on the top of the frame, but it is very secure and won't move. Does anyone know how this is done? I have good mechanical skills, but I'm stumped!
