RV websites of the week:

Campers With a Conscience
Not your ordinary, everyday camping club, this organization has a very diverse agenda and an active membership with programs for youth, teens, adults and retirees. Especially useful these days would be their program for disaster awareness training (DAT) to enable members to protect themselves, families, and friends in the event of such natural disasters as we've witnessed in such abundance lately. For those concerned with the environment, "Family Campers and RVers" work in such areas as highway & park beautification, wildlife conservation, recycling, and more. Scholarships are made available for eligible students of all ages.

How do they do that?
From nut farms and the beer breweries to go with them, Factory Tours USA can answer that question. See American imagination and industry in action. Not only are the tours educational and interesting, you might get free sample treats at the end of some of the food factories! Most can easily accommodate RV parking and are easily accessible to major highways. This site also provides locations, hours and links to the company websites.

Work among our country's best scenic spots
The National Park Service can use your help in many different areas related to the running and maintaining of our country's national parks and monuments. Seasonal employment, volunteering, internships, as well as the tried-and-true camp hosting opportunities are outlined on this NPS Career site. RVers usually make our beautiful parks one of the primary travel destinations, so why not help them out while you're there?

RV News

Exploding gas prices and howling winds won't stop 'em!
The recent FMCA rally in Kansas had fewer RVers this year due to two deadly hurricanes and record fuel prices. However, some members just would not be stopped. Says Kay Easton, "At this point, we've decided we chose our lifestyle and need to do the best we can. We're retired, and this is our job, seeing the country." Regarding fueling up, another member says, "You run on the top half of the tank... the shock effect isn't as bad when you're paying for half a tank." Also see a pic of the pet parade in this Hutchinson News article.

"Just grit your teeth, swear and fill 'er up." Says a hearty group of RVers in yet another perspective in Roseville Press Tribune.

Even RVers from Denmark know about "camping" at WalMart
They know the price is right, but even after the hurricane-hit gas prices, they say that's not the issue. Gas is double in Denmark! But shouldn't someone tell them it's not in the "rules" book to set up chairs and drink beer in the parking lot? Read about them and why people choose and use RVs in the Jackson Sun.

Just for Fun

RV Having Fun Yet?
A Nickelodeon special with this title will air on Monday, October 10, at 8:00pm (ET). The tweens of the TV show All Grown Up hit the road with their moms to explore America. Later, when the bumpy road splits the kids from their moms, a chain of awesome events reunites them.

How to be an obnoxious camper
Sometimes it does seem that people go out of their way to annoy their fellow campers. If you're one of them, this article by Adrienne Kristine can put you over the edge and make you even more unwelcome.

This Big WORT is for sale!
See the Weird Off-Road Truck here. All you need to do is figure out how to get it from Australia. The exchange rate might make this a good deal. Maybe you'll like the WORMs better?
(Thanks to reader Dick Martin for this one)
