| Bill and Dorothy Bell |
Dot and Bill Bell are Mexican RV experts who have
taught and led seminars about camping in Mexico throughout Canada and
the U.S. Their website, is considered the most up-to-date source about
camping and RVing south of the border. Dear Dot and Bill, I miss your columns? Where are you aren't you writing anymore? Shelly S.
Dear Shelly, Thanks for noticing! We have been very busy traveling, updating our
website www.ontheroadin.com and working on a book. It is very difficult
to write, get on-line and upload while you are actually on the road.
We have taken a few great trips from our temporary base in La Penita
(40 miles North of Puerto Vallarta) We traveled to Guadalajara,
Patzcuaro, Morelia, went to see the butterflies, to Mexico City to
climb those incredible pyramids, Queretaro, Guanajuato and back.

| Recent Travels in Mexico |
We also drove down the West Pacific coast and touched on all the resort
communities; Barra de Navidad, Ixtapa, Acapulco and Puerto Escondido
and then returned via Oaxaca. We managed to arrive in Mexico DF for Our
Lady of Guadalupe on December 12 along with millions of others for all
the celebrations. It's been a busy few months but we are back on track
now and hope to post a column every two weeks or so. If you have any
questions about any of the areas we have recently traveled, drop us a
line. Dot and Bill
Hello, I was wondering about toll roads. We are taking a trip in February and
our motorhome has duallies with a tag axel that's a total of eight
tires. Would we typically pay twice as much as a car? Also, have you
traveled the new highway that borders Guatemala from Bonampak to
Lagunas de Montebello? We are considering taking that route. Noel & Lori

Dear Noel and Lori, About toll highway charges with duallies and tag axel: Don't ask us
why.....but you will pay more, usually close to two cars worth BUT NOT
ALWAYS. It doesn't make sense. There is no formula . . . About the
route to Bonempak: No we have not gone that route. We were in the area
last year and were advised not to go this route as there were many
robberies. Even the competing tour operators were driving together.
There is camping at Bonempak. There are lots of military checkpoints.
If you were to go it would be wise to leave early, travel with a group
of rigs and remain cautious. If you do decide to go, we would love to
hear your experiences. We won't be back that way for another six months
and will assess the local conditions then. Dot and Bill
Helpful Hint The best roadmap for Mexico is the Guia Roja. Hands down. To ensure it
lasts for many vacations, find a zip lock baggie that will protect it
from the elements. We turn to the page that we are traveling that
particular day and read it through the plastic. The pages remain crisps
and straight and are protected against spills and moisture. It's no fun
having to deal with a map-book with all its pages stuck together.
