Dear Chuck, We are new to the RV scene and last year we took our "dream" vacation. We purchased a used (1995) Prowler 33.5 Ft. w/2 slides. We love it. We spent 4 1/2 months on the road, going from Texas to New Mexico, Arizona, California, Oregon, Washington, British Colunbia, Alaska (for two months) and back via a very different route (via Branson, Mo.). We had a great trip, met many wonderful people (only met one rude person on the whole trip), made many friends and had the best time of our life. The roads in Alaska were very good for the most part. The secret is to use common sense as you would in the U.S..On a rough road, slow down. The Cassier Highway North of Hayder, Alaska is the only part we encountered which slowed us down. It was 12 miles of 15 to 20 miles per hour washboard. But it was tolerable. Roadwork to improve it is supposed to be done soon. We heard several stories of people driving the Top of the World Highway into Chicken, Alaska from Canada. They reported that the highway was plagued with problems. But, in thinking about the stories , perhaps the people were driving too fast for the existing conditions. The people there are in no hurry and do not rush you to drive faster. Drive at your own pace and enjoy it. On one stretch of road we saw several bears we would not have seen had we been driving faster. Relax and enjoy it. That is what you got your rig for. Like I said, this is our frist travel trailer, but not our last. We have resolved to never be without one. We love the freedom., the sights, and most of all the people. There are no strangers in the RV community. People come out of their trailers or coaches to help you back in in an RV park. Everyone is so great. No strangers. We made so many friends. It really is a wonderful life. -- R.S.
