Shut Up and Drive!
By Adrienne Kristine
Many states have passed laws about cell phone use while driving and many states require a hands-free connection in your vehicle. Radio Shack and other stores have hands-free kits for any cell phone available. A simple headset with microphone attached to your phone while it's in a holder on the dash is enough. Set your phone to answer automatically when the headset is plugged in and you won't have to take your eyes off the road.
If the call you need to make is informational and time-sensitive (stuck in traffic and will be late), make the call and hang up immediately. If the call is an emergency, put 911 on speed dial (under 9) and use your thumb to find the button. You won't have to take your eyes off the road.
If the call you're making or receiving is a chat, get off the road and stop. When I'm in my car, I'm protected by a couple of tons of metal. When I'm in my RV, I'm sitting in over five tons and it takes a much longer distance to stop. My reaction time is excellent, but it suffers if I'm distracted.
Pay attention when you're driving and don't make a fatal mistake.
