We had a beautiful Japanese Akita that we rescued from death. Besides the infections we had to clear up, we spent over $7000 just to have the cruciante ligaments in his hind legs fixed. Dino was one of our kids & putting him down was not an option!

Spent well over $5,000 on our traveling cat, Pebbles, because of an enlarged heart. Much of the cost was for anticoagulants which we got from Canada as it was $200+ per vial less expensive there. He was like one of our children. Would do it again in a heartbeat!

When our Boston Terrier went blind with cateracts we decided to have the operation. He was only 5 at the time and is now 9. The surgery, plus follow up checks and daily eye drops has exceeded 5,000, but when he can find his way back in the house, can see his frizbe etc., it has been worth every dollar.

$3700 this past month on our male Saint Bernard, for the surgery to repair a twisted stomach. An unpleasant shock, I have to say. It was an emergency-only hospital, so the costs may have been lower had our regular vet been qualified to do the work.

$900 about 10 years ago for a Corgi with cancer. He lasted another month, then crashed again. This time, we said no more. Also $500 for radiation therapy for a wonderful Maine Coon cat with liver cancer. Full cure that time, and he lived a long life.

I rescued a shepard mix that ran with coyotes in southern Arizona. Turns out the coyote population is heavy with heart worms. Cost over $1,300 to totally treat him (includes after tests to insure the process worked).

Our 1 1/2 year old Boston Terrier/Chihuahua was hit by a vehicle. It broke both her pelvis bones. Thanks to Care Credit we were able to spend $3000 to repair her and pay off the bill with no interest! This happened May 17, 2009 and she has been fully active since the first of July.

May 2008, we woke up to our 9 year old Boston Terrier paralyzed. Long story short, $7,000 for MRI, spinal surgery and medications, "Doc" is living a very quality life and happy as ever! I would pony up all over again. Hubby says after the Million Dollar Dog is gone, no more pets!

Spend a ton on a Boxer with cancer once, but the vet deal of a lifetime happened this summer. Our Westie was attacked and almost killed by a pit bull in a state park campground. Total bill, anesthesia, surgery, etc was $161.00. We love New Mexico!!!
