We went 'over hill and dale' with the latter, congratulating ourselves when successfully getting 20 miles up a rip-rap road into Utah's back country, and then making it back out--all unassisted. Sometime, while we were sleeping, a whole new class of enthusiasts must have developed. With blogs touting the world of "expedition campers," these guys (and gals) take the idea of back country RVing to a whole new plane. The latest chatter on the expedition blogs? UniCat MXT, the 'consumer friendly go-anywhere Class C motorhome.' Built on an International MXT platform, the new UniCat motorhome is a product of both US and German technology. The International chassis is loaded up and shipped overseas to Germany. There the company adds a 17' fiberglass motorhome module. A few other goodies, too, including twin 15,000 pound winches (front and rear), reverse osmosis desalination water system (great for those long days on the beach), 8 Kw generator, and more. Of course, these are optional equipment orders, but if you can hack the price of the UniCat, the options probably won't be a problem. Well, maybe $500,000 in the up-scale motorhome world isn't so far out of line, anyway. But you can't have one today: There's a six month cycle from order-to-delivery. Meantime, you can dream about really traveling "cross country." Top of Page Get your FREE RV Travel Newsletter every week - sign up now.
